Nice, but not quite there…

I was really excited to get my new strap. I’m female, almost 70 years old, play bass (a Fender Precision Lyte because it’s lighter), and need a break after an hour set to let my shoulder settle down. This was going to be my savior, and so far it’s doing a pretty decent job. But…I have to say set up was extremely difficult. Take your time with that - where you land initially might not be where you land ultimately. I almost gave up. I’m glad I didn’t, but here are the areas where I had a lot of struggle.

First off, the leather is thick and stiff - trying to get your strap locks through those holes might be your first challenge. I didn’t want to cut any modifications until I was sure that the strap would work for me, so while I was able to force one strap lock through, the other went in at an angle while I did the set up. Once I was satisfied with the final result, I went ahead and lengthened the four slits on each hole so that I could get the strap locks in securely.

Secondly, the length of the strap assumes that you have no interest in having your bass ride high à la Mark King. While I don’t ride my bass that high, I do like a higher set up, and ended up having to go just a little bit lower than what I prefer. It wasn’t a deal breaker.

There are two types of hardware for getting the length you want. One is a tab type locking slide, and the other is a screw. Both are plastic and are located on the inside of the strap. With my build, they manage to dig into the inside edge of my right shoulder blade, meaning that I had to fashion a cushioning device to comfortably wear the strap. I was able to come up with a solution because I really wanted this to work for me.

All in all, I love the concept, and while I’m not ecstatic with the result as I hoped to be, I’m still very happy. I’d love to see a wider left side strap with some memory foam or something, but that could be just because I’m getting old and bony and want what I want. I’ll keep watching your website just in case there are any great modifications in store…

Duostrap

Due to a chronic shoulder condition I would not be able to physically play my bass guitar without the Duostrap. They are rather cumbersome to switch between guitars so I would like to purchase additional Duostraps for my other guitars. They have been unavailable for some time now. Have you discontinued their production? Thanks

Hi John,

Thanks for the awesome review! 🙌 We acutally just got some more in yesterday! We're so glad you find the DuoStrap helpful.

Nice problem solver but black dye stains shirts

First, love the strap system. Works for me and is super helpful for playing long gigs with my 11lb Fodera. However, straps sitting close to neck artery, the width of the leather can be constricting to my neck at times. Also, the black dye comes off on my light colored shirts and neck ties. So, I tried the less expensive Neo version… much better! No dye issues and the straps are thinner so no neck constriction. Also, I like the give of those straps better than the leather. Great system and I’m probably going to be a forever user but I wouldn’t recommend this leather version. By the way, I loved this leather version, but it was after many gigs and ruined ties and shirts, and realizing the discomfort as the straps sometimes closed in on either side of my neck did I venture to try the neo version. Neo is a fraction of the cost and better on the levels just shared. I also found it helpful to buy the extended strap. Shame you can’t choose a longer version like the John Patitucci straps (which I was a long time fan of until this). The strap it comes with is super short. There’s a learning curve to getting the right balance but I have mine dialed in just right for me.

Hey James,

Thank you for the reply! We will send this to our production team for imporvments! Thank you for letting us know.

Thanks!

Rides too high at full length

I really like the design and the feel of the DuoStrap Neo but 44 inches is too short for a taller player. I'm surprised this strap is so short but really can't use it at this length.

Hey Jerry, we just left you an email through customer care informing you that we have extension straps available for purchase if you need some extra length with your DuoStrap Neo Click on the link in the email for more information!
