Russell Kenji Shores hails from New York and has a Bachelor of Music Degree from Central University of New York, N.Y. Nicknamed "Thor" or "Thunder Baby" by his peers for his thunderous grooves, he began playing bass at age twelve. During his professional career, Russell has shared the stage with an impressive number of artists including Diana Ross, Julian Lennon, The Kevin Fowler band, Lucid Dream, The Steve O" Neil band, The Major Burkes band, The ACC jazz band, The Blues Specialist which features Mel Davis, cousin of the legendary T Bone Walker, Elliott Fikes and Soul Serenade (as musical director), Austin Alibi, Wesley United Methodist Church The First Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church and The Freedom Home Baptist Church Mass Choir under the leadership of Pastor O.B Howard Jr.
Russell plays and has the endorsement of MTD basses, US Master Guitar fretless bass, MTD strings, Gruv Gear, Lathon Bass Wear, MTD Kingston basses, Visual Sound pedals, Genz Benz Amplifiers and AccuGroove speaker cabs. In 2009 Russell released his first instrumental solo album entitled LS 5. Russell has taught privately for twenty one years and has been the primary bass instructor at Pfluger-Rock School of Music since it opened in 2000.
